It is 9:23 a.m. And 9 years ago today, I am pretty sure that I was eating the breakfast of champions (McDonalds) on my wedding day. No, Wheaties are definitely not the first source of fuel for champions. Definitely McDonalds.
There are a few things I remember being set on when planning the biggest party of our lives in July 2000. I didn't want a strapless dress, because everyone had one. Mike was very anti-limo to the reception...but a bus was okay. He was also very against having a photographer in the aisle as I made my way toward him. Nothing to block his view, as he said (awww).
I remember painfully picking the music for our ceremony...wanting it to be a mix of something unusual, yet not too over the top. I LOVED that our bridesmaids were to walk down the aisle to Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World," played by piano and some sort of string quartet. Imagine me FREAKING out when the wedding planner got the order of the processional wrong and sent my bridesmaids down the aisle during a duet to "The Prayer".
The horror. The end of the world, actually.
Only it wasn't, because moments later the "Wedding March" began and I saw my husband-to-be. Calm. And smiling. He had NO idea that the processional was RUINED! Because it wasn't (and it's highly probable he never even saw our wedding program or listened when I painfully debated all choices noted above).
At the end of that long aisle, everything was perfect. Because he was there. And we were getting married. And in the scheme of our past nine years, a little music glitch is nothing compared to our crazy tangle with testicular cancer in 2002 (him, not me, in case you're wondering), the birth of our very premature triplets, the loss our our son Caleb and the very long wait we had to bring our babies home in '04. Not to mention the screaming, crying, irrational behavior that comes with many young children.
And he is still here. Calm. And smiling.
